A client like this doesn’t come along every day. This was more than a project, it was a child’s legacy.
Delanie’s Social Butterflies provides support, guidance, and a sense of community to medically complex children, their families, and their caregivers. Created in memory of the brief, yet inspirational, journey of Delanie Simpson, the organization creates awareness and promotes goodwill through outreach as well as online education and resources.
From a personal standpoint, this was a chance for me to help spread the word about a wonderful organization. From a design standpoint, it was an amazing opportunity to spread my wings.
The organization’s name comes from the nickname Delanie’s parents gave her: Social Butterfly. So I started there, with a beautiful and whimsical butterfly made up of some complex details (much like Delanie herself). The more you look, the more you see. Inside each of its wings are the initials D, S, and B. When the sides are mirrored, they reveal a heart—that’s the soul of the organization and Delanie herself. And just like her spirit, the body is spanned wide to evoke feelings of pride, support, and empathy.
